Residential Programme

The residential and extended day provision works in conjunction with and supports the school in enabling our pupils to develop skills, achieve their potential and support them in making their next steps.

Residential is an opportunity for students to have fun, try new activities and socialise with students outside their own class/age groups and to build positive relationships with trusted adults outside of classroom environments. Activities include kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, mountain biking, climbing, cinema, football, board and card games as well as one off events such as attending football matches and pantomimes.

Developing social skills, self-confidence and esteem, emotional regulation, being safe and healthy and making a positive contribution are all targets set within the Residential Placement Plans and are derived from each pupils Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP's). Boarders have opportunities to achieve these targets both through the activities program and during house time. This is further supported by house staff, key working sessions, and house/ group meetings”.

We use the Wheel of Independence to develop and track pupils independence skills and focus on the following areas:

  • Self-care
  • Meal Preparation
  • Time Management
  • Leisure
  • House Keeping
  • Laundry
  • Food Shopping
  • Money Skills

Boarders' views of why they board.....

'Boarding is fun and it is a break from home as it is so busy'

'It helps me, at home I struggle, I am good and helpful here'

'Boarding is like having a second family'

'If I am having a difficult day, it gives me something to look forward to. I like the staff, they are fun, kind, and amazing with the kids'

'Boarding is fun, I like most of the activities. It helps me relax and gives me a break from home'

Parental feedback.....

'My son has already started improving in terms of social skills and has a better attitude towards others already'

'The impact has been dramatic, and transformational. My son is happier, more industrious and is developing greater independence'

'The impact of boarding is wider than at school, it is also helping relationships with siblings, language and behaviour at home, we have seen a reduction in conflict at home'
